How the Emoji Is Helping Us To Communicate Better Than Ever

As our generation is glued to our phones more than ever, that means the way communication is changing is more prominent than ever. Texting is now one of the most popular ways to communicate with others (friends, family, co-workers, etc,) and social media (Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, etc,) are ways to connect with others not only the people we know, but people around the world that we may never get the chance to meet. However, emojis are something that have been around for a good while now, and are ways to properly show others over the phone, computer, or other forms of technology how we are feeling and what our reactions may be.

Now a days, there are emojis for almost anything. If you want to text your mom that you are on your way home taking the train? You can do that in emojis. Maybe text you significant other that you are missing them and want to go out on a date soon here enough, you can do that in emojis as well. At their most highbrow, emojis can be seen as metalanguage signals and emotional framing – or, put more simply, as a means to discuss language and convey our feelings. Essentially, when we message online we are communicating in a way that we usually would when in face-to-face interactions, hence why the crying laughter face has so much meaning.

It is known that these emojis are becoming their own kind of language really, and each emoji means different things in each culture around the world. A thumbs up emoji here in the United States means everything is a-ok, but in Iran or Italy it can be considered an action of swearing. The reason that emojis are so successful in all these respects is that, however much we might like to fear them, they’re not really doing anything new at all.

As time goes on, communication in this sense will continue to change, and this news report says there should be no worries about it. The past language is the past, the present is forever changing, the future will be the future. Everything is evolving, growing and prospering, and that's all okay.
